The Game

Playing Dodgeball

Dodgeball isn’t just a game—it’s a movement of accessibility, inclusivity, and connection. Played worldwide by people of all ages, genders, and athletic abilities, it stands out as one of the most welcoming sports around. With simple, easy-to-learn rules, dodgeball ensures that anyone—whether a seasoned athlete or a complete beginner—can jump in, play, and feel an immediate sense of belonging.

What truly sets dodgeball apart is its unique social aspect. The sport thrives in a mixed-gender (co-ed) format, encouraging teamwork and building friendships that extend far beyond the court. Dodgeball brings together individuals from all walks of life, uniting them through a shared love for the game and a spirit of camaraderie and sportsmanship.

More than just a competition, dodgeball is a global connector, breaking down social, cultural, and national barriers. It’s a rare space where diversity is celebrated, and players come together to compete, collaborate, and thrive as one inclusive community. Whether you’re here to play, learn, or simply cheer, dodgeball welcomes you with open arms. 🌍💙

The Rules

Cloth ball tournaments organised by the IDBA adhere to European Dodgeball Federation (EDF) rules, and foam tournaments adhere to the World Dodgeball Federation (WDBF) rules. However, tournaments organised by other dodgeball bodies may use different rules. For example, when competing in the British Dodgeball Northern Irish League, Irish teams will play under British Dodgeball rules.

The basic rules remain the same across all tournaments:

1. If you get hit by a live ball, you are out.

2. If you catch a ball, the person who threw the ball is out and you can get a player back in play for your team.

3. If you cross court boundaries, you are out.

4. A game is won by a team if they knock out all the other team's players, or if they have more players in play at the end of an agreed play time.
